Patellofemoral Pain Syndrome (PFPS), is a term used to describe pain in the front of your knee and around your kneecap (the patella). Sometimes a condition known as chondromalacia patella is present. Chondromalacia patella is the softening and breakdown of the articular cartilage in the underside of your kneecap
It’s sometimes referred to as runner’s knee or jumper’s knee, because it is a common problem for those who play football, basketball or any other jumping sport.

Some common symptoms;
- Pain during exercise
- Swelling or inflammation
- Gait problems
- Pain at front of the kneecap
- Swelling and bruising at front of the knee
- Soft area, where the tendon should be tight
- Difficulty walking or doing sports activities
