Sprained ankle

Sub-4 Musculoskeletal Biomechanics Clinic in Staffordshire, West Midlands

Sprained ankle

Sprained ankle, is a very common type of ankle injury that can happen if you twist or turn your foot beyond its normal movement which can stretch or tear the ligaments that support your joint. This usually happens when you suddenly twist your foot too far inwards (an inversion sprain).

Your Ligaments are bands of fibrous tissue that connect one bone to another, supporting your joint. When the Ligaments on the outside of your ankle, stretch past their normal range, it sometimes causes them to overstretch and tear.

People often get Sprained whilst doing sports like football, rugby, tennis etc. Ball sports often involve sudden changes in direction or where you may run, jump and land awkwardly.
